Denis shares his global leadership journey across multinationals and startups, as well as hard-won insights on scaling engineering teams, navigating cultural dynamics, and the evolving economics of software in the age of AI and low-code platforms. From the rise of software composition and strategic outsourcing to metric-driven development and fractional leadership models, this conversation is packed with forward-thinking perspectives on how tech leaders can adapt to a rapidly changing landscape.

Some highlights of this episode include:

  • Global Team Scaling and Cultural Nuances
  • Outsourcing and the Evolution of Strategic Partnerships
  • The Economics of Software & Metric-Driven Development
  • Low Code / No Code Tools & AI as a Software Equalizer
  • Shifting Developer Roles and the Future of Software Composition

Q: So you said something there that I thought was really interesting, like metric-driven development. What would be the metric that you would hang up as the key to determining whether software development is driving value?

“…There’s some statistics out there that between 30 and 50% of all features in all software globally are either rarely used or never used. So I would love to see a world where the software talks back to us… to be a bit more dynamic in how it actually delivers value to customers…”

Q: And then for any kind of development teams, do you think it’s going to just accelerate development with the same number of people or do you think it’s going to vastly reduce the amount of people and keep the same amount of software, let’s as in velocity of development?

“I would say… developers are going to become more adaptable. I think there’s going to be a wider set of considerations in the software development lifecycle… We’re going to have more financial inputs… The developer experience and the customer experience are becoming more integrated… I see us going towards metric driven development in the sense of measuring how software is being used, how/where it’s making an impact…”
