Scaling Engineering Teams Successfully
As a company grows, the needs and expectations of team members start to evolve with it. From structural changes to how individuals fit into the overall team – there is a lot for companies to continuously optimize. So, what are the key elements you need to get right as you scale a software team?
Some of the topics we cover in this episode are;
- The requirements for scaling engineering teams successfully, based on the size of the team
- The importance of engaging employees for the success of a team
- Employee engagement strategies in an all-remote world
- What future software teams may look like beyond remote working
When you think about folks that have been around the team when it was much smaller and they’re still there when you’ve gone to 200 engineers, what are the things that you need to do to make sure that you’re bringing those people with you on the journey?
“I think you need to find a balance. You have a responsibility to help those people understand what they want, what they are looking for and where their passion lies… So, if they want to continue to work in a company with a lot of people, where somehow their impact is diluted, or it’s limited to a specific scope of the company, that’s perfect because they can still have a lot of impact. However, if that’s not what they are passionate about, then that’s also fine. I know it sounds bad, but it’s just the reality. It’s work, you just move on and hopefully you continue to do great things.”
